Assignment Steps!

My final assignment!!! Actually I wanted to do the part 1 of the assignment rather then the steps, as I felt that making the character display emotions would be more fun that simply climbing up stairs. But then I saw the 15% more marks awarded soo.. xD

Anyways.. I did the steps within 3 hours time and was feeling extremely happy about it, I think it was probably due to sleepiness as what I completed within 3 hours was utter crap. When I woke up and switch on maya I realize it looked extremely weird, soo.. I edited it make the jump more realistic and with the help of some of my friends fix some weird looking parts which I did not know how. Doing this assignment was pretty fun actually. I added in some ease in and ease out at the end and made the character appear like it preparing to jump, sort of like charging potential energy before realising it. The hardest part of this assignment was probably the part where he was in the air. It wasn't easy to make it look realistic as it fall down and land on it feet, although the part before he jump might be on par with it..

Assignment Walking Cycle

Walk Cycle!!! Initially I thought this would be extremely easy! But it wasn't as easy as I thought as a lot of work must be put in the animate your character into looking life life. I had to actually test it out in real life many times to see how a real life human walk.

These are two walk cycle guides which I used to complete my animation. I sort of combined them together. We had quite a lot of time to finish up our walk cycle and had constant guidance from our teacher on what to fix. So I didnt have much problem. Adding in weight shift on the body and making it flow was a little hard. I had to play with the graph editor a little in order to make it work. In this exercise, as we had to do a 10s walking cycle. I duplicated the first set and then pasted it in front and then edited the translate Z so that it fits. All in all I had lots of help from my friends and couldn't accomplish this without their help. Thanks for reading my blog. Hope it's pretty good.. Sorry about the late posts xD

Rigging!

This post will be about the rigging tutorial. This is one of the most irritating and complex thing I have done so far.. It is also suppppper borrrring.

There were quite a lot of restrictions while in the model that we were taught to do so I couldn't get a very good pose. Doing rigging was really.. boring.. I now understand how lucky we were that our assignment did not require us to create the model by ourselves. Although one of the benefit of rigging is I learnt a lot about Maya that I did not know before. This tutorial was one of the hardest so far and took me days because it was really boring..

Big Dog Animation

This is the video animation of Big Dog. In this tutorial we were supposed to learn some of the basics of shifting weight in animating. This is a video that shows what I'm supposed to do, which is basically animate what the dog does when he gets kicked from a side.

Err.. This tutorial was fairly simple again. We sort of learn how to set the major key points for each legs. This is an important part of animation, setting the major keypoints to indicate the highest or lowest point an object should move. Then I also rotated the body a little to give it a sort of staggering feel. During this tutorial, I was also taught how to manipulate the graph editor. Although it look extremely complicated.. It is actually REALLY REALLY Complicated. I had to mess around with it and do several saves in case I screwed things up big time. At the end of the day, I could confidently say that I have understood about 5% of what the graph editor can do =D

Spiderman's Animation

Okay this video is the animation of spiderman's hips. In the tutorial lesson we were taught to add in ease in and ease out during our animations and as you can see in the video, that is what I did. Doing this tutorial was kinda fun and simpler than I thought it would be. Err.. In my video, I think I might have made the spiderman a little too.. sexy lols. But I feel that its a great work! Really unique!!

Character Design

Okay! Finally gonna post my character design.. The reason why it took so long was because I couldn't find a scanner to scan my pictures in..

There is the back view, the front and the side.. They are all in different poses. These drawings took me about 4 hours to draw. But I did a lot more drawings then this, as I thought that there were more to be done.  I also played around and draw some random craps. xD

Name of this character is Gaara. Unique features of his is his dark eye rings surrounding his eyes, the gourd on his back and the "Love" sign in Chinese tattooed on his forehead. I had to keep erasing many time while doing this as I could not get the proportion correct as it look kinda weird. The head was sometimes too small, so I had to redo it a couple of times. I guess I had lots of fun doing this as he is a character I like.
